Some Santa Maria churches are teaming up to help the most needy in their community.
The "Showers of Blessing" program offers free showers, haircuts, and breakfasts every Monday from 8 a.m. to noon.It's at the First United Methodist Church on Broadway.

The Santa Maria Strawberry Festival continues Sunday night.
The event kicked off Friday and goes until midnight Sunday.
The Strawberry Festival ends at 10 p.m., but the carnival stays open later.
Organizers say they're expecting up to 5,000 people at the park for the closing shows.
Allan Hancock Police were even called out to the event to help provide extra security.

Local students came together Saturday to practice their welding skills.
100 students from 10 local high schools competed in Allan Hancock College's 16th Annual High School Welding Competition.
Students participated in six different, hands on competitions.
Several welding organizations helped put on the event.
Students could win prizes worth thousands of dollars.

Kids drawing on walls isn't always a bad thing. Students at Tunnell Elementary School in Santa Maria are getting creative with paint.
They're painting a mural on a wall on campus. The wall once had tiles in the school's yellow and blue colors that were damaged over the years. (More)...

A Girl Scout project started thousands of miles away created a life-long friendship and after seven decades will be honored.
