KSBY-TV is the NBC affiliate in San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties and made its on-air debut in May of 1953.It went on the air, however, as KVEC-TV. The VEC call letters stood for Valley Electric Company.
KVEC-TV was the first local television station built in the Central Coast of California. Originally, the station carried all three television networks: NBC, CBS & ABC.
KSBY is on the air in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo, broadcasting a digital signal providing NBC high-definition and The CW network standard-definition programs.
A UHF or all-channel antenna (VHF if you live in Santa Barbara) connected to a digital-to-analog converter box or to a digital-ready television is required to receive the new signal. If you are already set up to receive a digital broadcast all that is necessary is to re-scan channels on your converter box or television.
