Cal Fire officials were busy Sunday battling several small fires along the Central Coast.

Local law enforcement are stepping up patrols for the Cinco de Mayo weekend.

The San Luis Obispo County "Avoid the 14" DUI Task Force is going to be out all weekend looking for drunk drivers.

California Gray Whales stop in San Luis Bay to feed

The whales are back in San Luis Bay. Local charter companies said Friday that they've seen California Gary Whales for the past two weeks.

Time capsule being buried at Cuesta College

A time capsule is being buried at Cuesta College in honor of the school's 50th anniversary, and the community is invited to attend.

The capsule was built by students in the college's welding program and includes various planning and accreditation documents, along with other items of significance to the college this year.

The burial is happening at Cougar Park on the San Luis Obispo campus at 1:30 p.m.

The capsule will be dug up in 25 years.

Jeff Williams of Williams Brothers' Market chain remembered this week on Central Coast

A lot of long-time central coast locals are mourning the loss of a community leader this week. Jeff Williams was killed earlier this month when the motorcycle he was riding on highway 154 was hit by a SUV driven by a 17-year-old boy.

Crews in Atascadero Tuesday for Fire Preparedness Exercise

CAL FIRE crews will be in West Atascadero Tuesday for the annual Fire Preparedness Exercise.

Beginning at 9:30 a.m., crews will be at Vierra Ranch, just south of Santa Lucia and El Monte roads, hiking, constructing fire lines, and participating in various safety exercises.

The exercise is done to maintain CAL FIRE'S Type 1 status for emergency response in California.

CAL FIRE says crews have been training for the exercise for several months.
