A California Highway Patrol investigator confirms a car found badly burned in rural Santa Maria Monday morning is a Corvette.
The car was found a day after Fabian Alexander, 46, was killed in a hit and run on Highway 101 in Nipomo. Investigators have been looking for a blue Corvette in connection with the hit and run and say they don't know if the burned Corvette is the same car.

The California Highway Patrol has identified the man hit and killed in Nipomo Sunday morning as Fabian Alexander, 46. CHP believes the victim was a transient.
Officers are still looking for the driver they believe killed Alexander as he was walking across the off-ramp of Hwy. 101 North at the Hwy. 166 East exit. The car is described as a dark blue Chevrolet Corvette.
Early Monday morning, officers discovered a car on fire on Foxen Canyon Road near Dominion Road in rural Santa Maria. Officers are still working to identify what kind of car it is, because it was so badly burned in the fire. Investigators have not confirmed a connection to the hit and run, but say they're not ruling anything out.

A car fire in south Santa Maria have investigators looking at whether or not it could be connected to Sunday's fatal hit and run in Nipomo.
A witness said a blue Chevy Corvette hit and killed a man walking across the off-ramp of Highway 101 North at the 166 East exit. And Monday morning in Santa Maria, police responded to a call about a fully engulfed car.
It happened on Foxen Canyon Road near Dominion in Santa Maria. The California Highway Patrol is working with the Santa Barbara County Fire for a cause.
The CHP isn't ruling anything out, but it's still too early to tell if the torched car is the blue Chevy Corvette they have been looking for.
Police are still looking for the driver of that 2005-2006 Corvette. Police said there's a good possibility the person driving the Corvette lives in the Nipomo area, since they headed north on Thompson Avenue after leaving the scene.
KSBY did get a call from a viewer who said she's used to seeing that car on Thompson, but we can't confirm if it was the same car.
Police are hoping the community will come forward with any information. "The community, a lot of times is one of our best resources out there, and the media getting it out, and a lot of times the smallest lead has led us to a successful conclusion to the case. And that's what we're counting on this time," said Sergeant Daniel Barba of the Santa Maria CHP.
The CHP told KSBY the car in Monday's car fire was so badly burned, they don't even know what kind of car it is, but, they said, they'll be able to identify it in about one to two days.

The California Highway Patrol is looking for the driver responsible for hitting and killing a pedestrian on the northbound Highway 101 off-ramp to Highway 166 early Sunday morning.
It happened around 1:00 a.m. Based on witness statements and evidence gathered at the scene, CHP believes the driver of a dark blue Chevy Corvette ran over the man and took off. Witnesses said he drove northbound on Thompson Road towards Nipomo after the incident.
CHP said the driver/owner of the car may live in Nipomo, and may be hiding the damage of the car in a parked garage. The car is dark blue, likely a 2005 or 2006. The damage done to the car is on the front bumper, the right front fascia, the hood, and windshield. The hard top is missing from the vehicle.
The victim's information has not been released, other than he is a male.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact CHP.
