1,000 gallons of raw sewage close Avila Beach and Port San Luis

Beach access areas at Avila Beach and Port San Luis are closed tonight after 1,000 gallons of raw sewage spilled into Froom Creek in San Luis Obispo.

The city says a blocked sewer caused the spill near the 1500 block of Calle Joaquin Road Friday afternoon.

The beach will remain closed until laboratory test results show low bacterial levels.

The city says you should avoid contact with Froom Creek and San Luis Creek and avoid San Luis Creek from Calle Joaquin Road to Avila Beach.

The spill was contained a little after 4 p.m. Friday.
