A Santa Maria woman is behind bars after police say she hit a 25-year-old mother in Santa Maria and drove away.
Shortly before 8 a.m. Tuesday, Santa Maria Police say a 25-year-old woman from Santa Maria was hit by a van while crossing Morrison Street with her 2-year-old daughter, who was in a stroller.
Police say the driver of the van was Guadalupe Espitia-Hernandez, 32.
They say Espitia-Hernandez drove away, but a witness of the accident followed her and she was located by police and arrested a short time later.
She faces two felony counts of leaving the scene of an accident and driving while unlicensed, which is a misdemeanor.
The mother and toddler were taken to the hospital for minor injuries.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
