ARVIN, Calif. (AP) - An oil tank explosion in Kern County has left one man dead and another person with severe burn injuries.
Authorities tell the Bakersfield Californian (http://bit.ly/L1vZVP) a two-person crew was using a torch to remove equipment from the tank in the city of Arvin on Tuesday morning when vapors inside ignited and the tank exploded.
The crude oil tank was empty and was being removed by a scrap metal company. Kern County sheriff's officials identified the victim as 24-year-old Cesar Martinez of Arvin. He died at the scene.
The Californian reports that the injured worker was airlifted to Kern Medical Center.
Sheriff's officials say the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health is investigating the incident.
