SHIRLEY, N.Y. (AP) - Police say one person has died and 32 people were injured in a massive traffic pileup that left dozens of vehicles littered across the main freeway on New York's Long Island.
The accident happened shortly before 3 p.m. on a bright, sunny Wednesday, leaving cars and trucks strewn across the Long Island Expressway in Shirley.
Aerial shots from News12 Long Island show at least one tractor-trailer and several cars apparently damaged by fire.
Authorities said two of the people hurt have serious injuries.
Several ambulances and fire trucks responded.
The highway was closed between Exits 65 and 69.
