15 horses found neglected in Santa Barbara County need new homes

The Santa Maria Animal Shelter says 15 horses need new homes.

The horses were all being neglected by their owners. Some of them were even abandoned and found as strays.

All of them have been treated by a vet, and they're completely healthy.

Now, shelter officials say they need to be adopted.

The horses range from thoroughbreds to Arabians.

"Horses are a difficult animal to place because you have to find homes that are knowledgeable, that are experienced with horses, that have property or are able to care for them, and have a place to put them," said Stacy Silva with the Santa Maria Animal Services.

If you're interested in adopting a horse, just call the Santa Maria Animal Shelter at 681-5285.
