According to San Luis Obispo County Sheriff Deputies, 15 people are in custody in connection to a panga boat drug smuggling operation.
Late Tuesday night, Immigration Custom Enforcement Agents saw a large motor home heading westbound early Wednesday morning on Highways 46 and 101. They followed the motor home from Highway 46 to Highway 1. It was then joined by two cargo vans and a passanger sedan. The four vehicles then drove towards San Simeon.
Deputies managed to stop the motor home where they say they found large bales of marijuana in the motor home, sedan, and one cargo van.
There was a chase on Southbound Highway 1 with one cargo van near the summit on Highway 46. That van went over a cliff.
While searching for any passengers in that van, authorities found a hole in a fence that led to the panga boat.
The investigation is ongoing, as well as a search for outstanding suspects.
