18 people arrested in Santa Maria gang sweep

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office made 18 arrests in a Santa Maria gang sweep Friday.

Gang Enforcement and Narcotic Enforcement detectives worked with the Santa Maria Police Department Gang Suppression Team and the Santa Barbara County Probation Department.

Officials say they focused patrols in areas where gang activity happens frequently.

According to authorities, none of the people arrested have been charged with a gang enhancement. Gang Detectives are investigating to see if those charges are appropriate.

Officers also conducted several probation checks. They arrested four people found in violation of their probation.
