MECCA, Calif. (AP) - Border agents have caught 10 immigrants who tried to come into the country illegally in an inflatable boat across the Salton Sea.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents said Friday that two suspected smugglers were arrested following Thursday's bust.
The agency said agents spotted the boat traveling north on the Salton Sea and followed it as docked near Mecca, where they were loaded into a pickup truck.
Authorities arrested the truck driver, a U.S. citizen, on suspicion of human smuggling and the boat operator, who was identified as a 45-year-old Mexican man.
The immigrants were in border patrol custody pending further investigation.
