SAN LORENZO, Calif. (AP) The California Highway Patrol says two people died and seven were injured when a van crashed into a parked flatbed trailer in San Lorenzo.

The crash occurred around 8:40 p.m. Tuesday.

The CHP says the Dodge Caravan carrying nine people was traveling at about 50 mph when it drifted to the left and hit the trailer.

The driver was apparently talking to a passenger in the back at the time. Both the driver and that passenger died. Neither has been identified.

The CHP says seven other people in the van were injured. Three were taken to Eden Hospital in Castro Valley with major injuries. Four others went to Highland Hospital in Oakland with minor to moderate injuries.
