SAN ARDO, Calif. (AP) - Two suspected gang members are facing multiple murder charges in Monterey County in connection with an alleged kidnapping case over the summer.

The Monterey County Herald reports that 19-year-old Juan Manuel Salazar Jr. and 23-year-old Enrique Nunez Lopez pleaded not guilty this week and are being held in Monterey County Jail.

Prosecutors say the two men are members of the Sureno gang. Salazar is described as the boyfriend of the 16-year-old girl whose disappearance prompted a weeklong statewide Amber Alert. They later surrendered at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Salazar and Lopez are being charged with the shooting deaths of two King City men - 22-year-old Hector Reyes and 25-year-old Daniel Fraga.

The gunshot victims were found dead on July 28 in the San Ardo home where the teenage girl had been staying.
