LAS VEGAS (AP) - Two 11-year-olds have been arrested for allegedly throwing rocks that killed six newborn kittens in southwest Las Vegas.

Police say the children were taken into custody Thursday and booked into Clark County Juvenile Hall. They face seven counts each of animal cruelty.

Police say neighbors heard breaking glass at an apartment complex on Russell Road about 5 p.m. on Oct. 9. Witnesses say they saw the two juveniles throwing rocks against a building before running from the area.

Authorities say the children had been throwing rocks at a mother cat that was giving birth, and her kittens ultimately died.

Investigators later identified the 11-year-olds as suspects.
