BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say two toddlers have been killed in a trailer fire in Central California that was accidentally started by two older children playing with matches.
Kern County fire officials say two girls, believed to be about two or three years old, died when the fire consumed the vacant trailer on the edge of Bakersfield around 2 p.m. Friday.
Fire Capt. Tommy Brown says the girls were playing in the trailer with two boys, believed to be four or five years old. The boys were playing with matches when the trailer caught on fire.
Brown says the boys were able to escape the flames, but the two girls were trapped inside as the fire spread through the trailer.
The boys are with family members as the fire is being investigated.
