The Santa Maria Police Department spent the overnight hours investigating a vehicle versus pedestrian accident in the city.
The incident happened in the 1600 block of North McClelland Street in Santa Maria.
When officers arrived on scene, they say they found a 20-year-old woman with severe body trauma. She later died at the hospital.
Officers say the victim had gotten into a physical fight with Jack Misiaskzek, 30, just before the crash.
When Misiaskzek tried to drive away from the scene, the woman held on to the car, police say. That's when she was hit.
Misiaskzek was arrested and is being held in Santa Barbara County Jail.
