3D mammograms appear to detect more cancers and lead to fewer callbacks than traditional imaging.
University of Pennsylvania researchers compared scans of thousands of women who underwent screening mammograms in 2011. 3D mammograms found 22% more cancers than conventional mammograms and reduced unnecessary call-backs by almost 2%.
Experts say 3D mammograms may be more effective because it gives Radiologists a clearer view of breast tissue.
