LOS ANGELES (AP) - Officials say five people were injured in a late-night house fire in Los Angeles.

City fire spokesman Erik Scott says a 50-year-old woman was taken to a hospital in critical condition with second- and third-degree burns to 25 percent of her body, a 45-year-old man was hospitalized in serious condition with a respiratory injury and three people who tried to rescue the other two victims had minor injuries and declined a trip to the hospital.

The fire was reported at 12:18 a.m. Saturday in the Arleta area in the San Fernando Valley.

All the injured were civilians. Firefighters rescued the critically injured woman from a front bedroom.

It took 45 firefighters about 20 minutes to put out the fire, whose cause remained unknown.
