A game changing interception by Atascadero High's Chase Young has been dubbed the Week 12 Friday Night Highlights Play of the Week. It happened in the middle of the first quarter in the Greyhounds' 30-14 win over Canyon in the CIF quarterfinals.
After Atascadero scored the first touchdown of the game, the Cowboys were driving and were inside Greyhound territory. Quarterback Cade Apsay dropped back and threw a pass to his top wide receiver target. However, Young stepped in front of receiver Drew Wolitarsky, the all-time leader in California history for career catches and receiving yards. The linebacker returned the interception 54 yards inside the Canyon 10 yard line. The junior's first interception of the season set up a touchdown to give Atacadero a commanding 15-0 lead.
Young and the Greyhounds host West Torrance Friday in the Northern Division semifinals. It marks the program's first semifinal game since 1996.
