The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office says six people are facing drug charges after they were caught off-loading marijuana from a panga boat on the South Coast.
The joint ongoing investigation between the Santa Barbara Count Sheriff's Office Special Investigation Bureau Narcotics Unit, Special Enforcement Team SWAT, Ventura County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Bureau, California State Parks, and the California Highway Patrol culminated early Friday morning on El Capitan State Beach.
Detectives say Habel Herrera of Mexico, David Arredondo of Compton, Martin Guzman of Compton, Marco Rangel of Mexico, Mauricio Brito of Compton and Deiber Chavez of Los Angeles had around 1,400 pounds of marijuana with them.
The men were arrested for transportation and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and booked into Santa Barbara County Jail. Detectives say the drugs have a street value of $4.2 million.
