6-month narcotics investigation leads to arrest

After a six-month investigation, a 23-year-old Santa Barbara man, who police say was a major supplier of illegal drugs in Santa Barbara, is behind bars.

Luis Felipe Uriarte was arrested Thursday morning during a traffic stop in the 900 block of Chapala Street where police say he was in possession of 10 ounces of cocaine.

When detectives searched Uriarte's home on Ocean View Avenue, police say around 2.8 pounds of cocaine was seized, along with 1 ounce of methamphetamine, and more than $25,000 in cash, which they say was proceeds from selling drugs, and also a .45 caliber pistol.

Police say the value of the drugs exceeds $40,000.

Uriarte was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on suspicion of possession of cocaine for sale, transportation of cocaine, and possession of methamphetamine for sale.

Bail is set at $100,000.
