The Cal Poly baseball team extended its national best home winning streak to 18 games with a 4-1 win against Cal. The Mustangs, ranked in the top 11 of all five major national polls improve to 18-3 on the season while the Golden Bears drop to 10-10.
Junior southpaw Matt Imhof picked up his fifth win on the mound by only allowing one run in 7 2/3 innings. Imhof struck out nine while allowing three hits and four walks. Taylor Chris secured his third save with a pair of strikeouts in 1 1/3 scoreless innings.
Sophomore second baseman Mark Mathias was 3-4 with a run and an RBI. Mathias extended his hitting streak to 11 games while improving his team best batting average to .361. Senior catcher Chris Hoo was 2-3 with 2 RBI. Sophomore designated hitter Brian Mundelll was 2-4 as Cal Poly outhit the Bears 11-5.
The second game of the four game series is on Saturday night at 6:00 with freshman right-hander Justin Calomeni (5-0, 1.95 ERA) on the mound for Cal Poly against Cal senior southpaw Kyle Porter (2-1, 1.78 ERA).
The Mustangs and Bears also play Sunday at 1 p.m. and Monday at 3 p.m.
