The Hancock football team beat LA Harbor, 50-44 at Righetti High School on Saturday night. The Bulldogs, ranked sixth in Southern California improve to 4-1. LA Harbor, ranked seventh drops to 3-2.
Hancock forced three first half turnover and took a 29-10 lead to the half. A Peter Berry 37 yard touchdown run three minutes in to the third quarter made it 36-10. LA Harbor rallied to pull within 43-37 with 2:30 to play. The Bulldogs responded with an 84 yard Cameron Artis-Payne touchdown run, his third of the game. Artis-Payne rushed for 206 yards on 26 carries.
In five games, Artis-Payne has 991 yards rushing and 14 touchdowns. The sophomore is being looked at by a number of division one schools and is set to make a recruiting visit to the University of Utah this week.
Hancock returns to conference play next week with a game at 3-2 Cerritos. The Bulldogs are 1-0 against the Northern Conference this season.
