LOS ANGELES (AP) Authorities say eight people have been hurt when their commuter train collided with a minivan that stalled on the tracks in South Los Angeles.

Sheriff's Sgt. Brenda Gibson says a man drove onto the tracks and got stuck at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

He got out but a northbound Metro Blue Line train struck the minivan head-on at about 50 mph and pushed it into a southbound train.

Gibson says eight people on the northbound train were taken to a hospital after complaining of head and neck injuries. There's no word on their conditions early Friday. Nobody on the southbound train was hurt.

The minivan driver was arrested on suspicion of causing injury while drunken driving.

Gibson says the crash caused more than $19,000 in damage to the trains.
