The pumpkins at San Luis Obispo's Mission Plaza Thursday were not your normal everyday variety.
It was the 8th annual Great Pumpkin Contest.
Local growers entered their best pumpkins to see who was queen or king of the giant pumpkins.
The top three growers took home a cash prize.
"The whole really for Farm Supply is to bring agriculture downtown. We live in a community where we're very proud of agriculture and if we can showcase this to the public and hopefully get them to grow their own pumpkin next year," said Cara Crye of Farm Supply.
Thursday's largest pumpkin weighed a county record of 890 pounds. It was grown by Randy Pharr.
Last year's winner weighed more than 600 pounds.
