9-11 Anniversary to be marked early in SLO this Sunday

This weekend locals will gather early to remember the attack on America that happened September 11th, 2001. On Sunday, there will be a barbecue at Mitchell Park in San Luis Obispo at the Corner of Osos and Pismo Streets to mark the day, and thank all living American veterans. It's from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.j. and is free to all military in uniform. It's $10 otherwise.

The Vandengerg Air Force Base Honor Guard will be there. There will also be speeches from servicemembers from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraq and Afghanistan Wars, and the SLO Fire Department.

Monte Mills and the Lucky Horseshoe Band will play.

You are encouraged to bring donations for troops and their families. The items needed are: individually packaged food, instant oatmeal, breakfast bars, granola, peanuts, corn nuts, drink mix for water bottles, dry cereal in boxes, Vienna sausage, granola bars, oysters, sardines, candy, microwave popcorn, chili, spaghetti, travel size toiletries, first aid kits, toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouth wash, sun screen, Q-Tips, entertainment, DVDs, paperbacks, puzzle books, and playing cards. Cash is also needed to help ship the items.
