SAN DIEGO (AP) - Authorities have arrested nine people and seized about 2,500 pounds of marijuana after chasing a panga boat up and down the coast off of northern San Diego County.
U-T San Diego reports Thursday (http://bit.ly/ShhOCh) that the boat was spotted near a beach camp about 1:35 a.m. A Border Patrol helicopter chased the boat for about an hour as it traveled along the coast from Carlsbad to Encinitas. The panga came ashore near a power station and two Mexican citizens who were aboard the boat were arrested.
Another seven people who were on land also were arrested and authorities believe they are connected to the suspected drug running. About 2,500 pounds of marijuana were found aboard the boat.
