The ninth ranked UC Santa Barbara soccer team finished play at the Gonzaga Nike Classic on Sunday with a 3-0 victory over the host Bulldogs. UCSB improves to 2-0-1 on the year. Gonzaga falls to 2-2-0.Junior Daniel Welsh was named the tournament's Defensive MVP after helping lead the Gauchos to a 2-2 draw with Oregon State on Friday and Sunday's shutout.
Senior Nic Ryan scored his second goal of the season in the 31st minute of the match. With 23 seconds left in the first half, Gonzaga's Parker Victor fired a shot from 10-yards out, but UCSB goalie Austin Mansker made a waist-high catch to keep the Gauchos ahead at the break. It was one of two saves Mansker had to make to seal his first career shutout.
In the 80th minute, Achille Campion was awarded a penalty kick after he was tackled in the box. The junior made the penalty for his second goal of the season. Then, in the 87th minute, freshman Ema Boateng crossed a free kick from the deep right side of the field to junior Goffin Boyoko, who put the ball away on the far right post for the third UCSB goal.
The Gauchos will be back at home on Friday to host Valparaiso at 7:30 p.m.
