The local chapter of the Alternatives to Violence Program hosted a graduation ceremony for about a dozen male inmates Saturday.

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office and Sister Theresa Harpin of Restorative Partners came together to put on the celebration.

In order to graduate from the program, the inmates had to complete 60 hours of workshops on alternatives to violence and conflict resolution. They will also become certified facilitators for future AVP programs. Two recent graduates have been co-facilitating the current class.

The program is designed to approach the issue of violence and conflict resolution proactively.
