Last week I told you I would be bringing you behavior tips based on the movie Marley and Me. However, as I watched the movie, the scene in which the dogs played in the ocean most profoundly moved me.
It was wonderful to see the sheer joy in that group of dogs as they romped in the waves, chased each other and got all wet and dirty.
I think one of the things I most admire about our pets is their ability to unabashedly enjoy themselves without worrying about others' opinions. We've all seen cats jump, twist and nearly
tie themselves into knots as they flip through the air trying to catch a dust bunny or moving shadow. They don't care that we are laughing at them. My dog will run at full speed in ever-widening circles while I stand and smile, and then stop at my feet with a goofy look on his face as if he is asking why I don't join him in his foolishness.
Who isn't jealous of the animal who shamelessly naps anytime the sun comes through their favorite window. They don't mind if we think they are lazy.
Maybe we should endeavor to learn more from our pets in 2009. They can teach us so much about love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness and having big fun.
