A man has been hospitalized with major injuries after crashing on Highway 166 Saturday evening. The crash happened around 5:30 p.m. about 20 miles east of Highway 101. Traffic was backed up for miles while emergency crews worked to save the man from his white van. Traffic was shut down in both directions for a short time, so a Cal Star helicopter could land to transport the victim to Marian Medical Center. Officer David Medina, California Highway Patrol, said, "For unknown reasons, and unknown speed, he failed to negotiate the curve and ran off the roadway, rolling several times and was ejected." The man suffered internal injuries. Officers want to remind people traveling this holiday weekend to slow down and focus on the road.
