Yes, they do. Most people have heard about the use of acupuncture as human medicine but it is believed to have been used to treat ailments in animals for thousands of years.
What conditions is acupuncture commonly used to treat in pets?
One of the most common uses for acupuncture in pets is pain relief. It can be effective is decreasing pain in such conditions as arthritis, injury, surgery or cancer. It can also be used to restore mobility in such cases as disc disease. It helps get pets moving again and relieves pain
Are there any other conditions that acupuncture are used to treat?
We also use acupuncture to engage the body's innate ability to heal itself. So if your pet is injured or experiences trauma we can use acupuncture to promote the healing process. Acupuncture is used to stimulate an immune response in patients with infection or that are immune compromised. It is frequently used to improve organ function.
Can acupuncture be used in conjunction with standard medicine?
Yes, it can be used while pets are receiving standard medical care. We used acupuncture on hospitalized patient along with their IV therapy and treatments.
How often does your pet have to receive acupuncture?
It goes by a case by case basis. It is what works best for the patient and the client. It could be anywhere from once a week to once a month. Your veterinarian can go over all your options with you.
