KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - An Afghan policewoman is in custody, after officials say she shot and killed an American adviser outside the police headquarters in Afghanistan's capital.
Kabul's governor says the woman had entered a strategic compound in the heart of the capital, and shot the adviser with a pistol as he came out of a shop with articles he had just bought.
According to the governor, the woman had earlier asked bystanders where the governor's office was located.
The adviser who was killed was a contractor whose identity hasn't yet been released.
The attack occurred outside police headquarters in a highly secure compound that also houses the governor's office, courts and a prison. A police official says the woman was able to enter the compound armed because as a police officer she was licensed to carry a pistol.
