AG boys, SLO girls defend PAC 7 track and field titles

Another year, another PAC 7 league track and field title for the San Luis Obispo girls and the Arroyo Grande High boys teams. The Eagle boys won their fourth-straight league title, while the Tiger girls won their sixth in a row at the PAC 7 Championships at Atascadero High School.

Three meet records were broken on Thursday. San Luis Obispo High's Christine Hoffman won three individual events to help the Tigers defend their title. Hoffman set a meet record in the girls 3,200 meter run with a time of 10:59.10, breaking her own record set last year by almost four seconds. The senior also won the 800 meters (2:20.12) and 1,600 meters. (5:04.01).

San Luis Obispo High junior Connor Hall enjoyed a career day. He cleared 16 feet to set a new meet record in the boys pole vault. That marks ties him for the seventh best in the state this season.

Arroyo Grande High's Jackson Zimmerman set a new meet record in the boys high jump. The senior cleared 6 feet, 5.5 inches to break the nine year old record by half an inch.

Arroyo Grande High dominated the field events. Madison Jacobs, a junior, won the discus throw with a top distance of 139 feet, 11 inches. She finished runner-up last year. Jacobs also won the girls shot put with a toss of 40 feet, 10 inches. Garrett Weinreich, who finished third in the CIF State Meet last year, defended his shot put title with a throw of 59 feet. Fellow Eagle Brandon Berguia completed the throw sweep for the Eagles. The recent Long Beach State commit edged Weinreich by two inches with a throw of 164 feet, one inch. AG junior Alexandra Mero won the girls high jump with a top clearance of 5 feet, 2 inches. Arroyo Grande senior Karina Hromyak won the girls pole vault with a top jump of 10 feet, 8 inches.

San Luis Obispo High's Alexandria Dalley took the triple jump with a top jump of 35 feet, 10.5 inches. The boys triple jump title went to the Tigers Chris Toh. The junior won with a jump of 41 feet 8 inches.

The Tigers Ariel Becker defended her 100 meter dash title winning in 12.48 seconds. She later won the girls long jump with a mark of 18 feet, 9.5 inches.

Paso Robles High senior Zander Souza repeated as the boys 800 and 1,600 meters champion. He won the mile in 4:23.57 and took home the title in the 800 in 1:58.50. San Luis Obispo's Seamus Land won his second-straight 3,200 meters event. He won by almost five seconds with a time of 9:39.71.

St. Joseph sophomore Kaitlyn Flowers won the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.67 seconds. AG's Elijah Holt won the 110 meter hurdles and was clocked in 15.17 seconds. The 300 meter hurdles were won by Atascadero HIgh freshman Angelica Cusworth (45.40 seconds)and Isaac Debow of Arroyo Grande (41.16 seconds).

Two juniors won the 400 meter crowns. AG's Christine Moreno won the girls race in 1:01.22, while Robert Hixson of Atascadero won in 51.50 seconds.

The boys 100 meter dash title went to Pioneer Valley High junior Codie Corbin. He won with a time of 11.13 seconds, edging Atascadero's Ty Robb by six-hundredths of a second. Nadine Reed of Arroyo Grande won the girls 200 meter dash with a time of 26.17 seconds. She edged Anaiis De Los Santos of Atascadero by four-hundredths of a second. San Luis Obispo's Scott Allis on the boys 200 in 22.89 seconds.
