AG community hoping barbeque can help save childcare program

The Arroyo Grande community is coming together to try and keep a local childcare program off the chopping block.
The Lion's Club hosted a barbeque fundraiser Friday night, to benefit the city's Children in Motion program which provides before and after school care for hundreds of kids in San Luis Obispo County.
As the city struggles with a budget shortfall, the recreation department is trying to raise enough money to support the program on its own.
It costs between $50,000-$55,000 but supporters say it is worth it.
"Working parents have a safe place where they know their kids are going to be well cared for, going to learn some interesting things and have some fun," said Doug Perrin, the director of recreation and maintenance.
The event raised about $2,000.
The Lion's Club says it hopes to hold more fundraisers for the program in the future.
