Arroyo Grande High senior-to-be Zachary Stevens competed against the best-of-the-best on Wednesday at the USA Swimming Championships in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The 17 year old was the second youngest in the field of 36, who qualified for the preliminary heats of the 200 LC meter breaststroke. Stevens finished 33rd out of the 36 athletes with a time of 2:22.68. Stevens is representing the Puma Aquatic Club this week.
The Pac 7 League and CIF champion will compete in two more events this week. He'll swim in the 50 breaststroke on Thursday and in his specialty, the 100 LC breaststroke on Friday.
Stevens set a CIF Division 2 record earlier this year in the 100 breast with a time of 55.13 seconds.
