Arroyo Grande High junior Madison Jacobs advanced to the discus throw final but did not advance in the shot put at the CIF Track and Field State Championships at Buchanan High School in Clovis on Friday.
The Masters and PAC 7 League discus throw champion finished third in the 23 girl field in the preliminary round. The top nine automatically qualified for Saturday's final. Jacobs' top throw of 141 feet, 11 inches came on the first of her three throws. Breana Jemison of Carlsbad High finished first in the prelims with a top throw of 145-5.
Jacobs set a personal best of 150-1 last Friday at the Masters Meet.
The junior missed the cut to qualify for the shot put final by seven inches. Jacobs' top throw was 40-8 Friday night. She finished in eleventh place out of 28 girls. Only the top nine automatically advanced to Saturday's final. The ninth place thrower finished with a mark of 41-3.
Five other Central Coast athletes qualified for the CIF State Meet, four of them will compete Friday night for spots in Saturday's finals.
