Arroyo Grande High's Joey Reeves and San Luis Obispo High's Connor Hall finished first and second in the boys pole vault at the Run for the Dream Indoor Track and Field Invitational on Monday in Fresno. The meet took place in the Save Mart Center.
Reeves and Hall, both seniors, both cleared 15 feet, 6 inches. But Reeves won the crown by clearing the height in his first attempt. Hall, who won CIF and Pac 7 League titles last year, cleared it in his second attempt. Hall signed a national letter of intent earlier this month to Duke.
Templeton High sophomore Veronica Russell won her heat in the girls mile run. Russell won with a time of 5:31, which was 2.62 seconds faster than the runner-up finisher in her heat. However, La Quinta junior Megan Huebner set a meet record in the second heat with a time of 5:09.20. Russell placed 10th overall in the field of 28.
Arroyo Grande High's Christine Moreno finished second in her heat in the 600 yard run. The senior was clocked in 1:34.86. Overall, she finished 17th out of the 57 prep athletes in the event.
