Arroyo Grande High's Sophie Whittle successfully defended her singles title, while Atascadero's Amber Peterson and Mallory Miller won the doubles crown at the Pac 7 League girls tennis finals on Friday. The final day of play was moved from Pioneer Valley High to St. Joseph High at the last minute because of the windy conditions.
Whittle, a sophomore, bested her teammate Lauren Hayashi, an AG junior, 6-2 and 6-3 to win her second-straight championship. Whittle improved to 42-2 on the season, while Hayashi fell to 49-5 overall.
In the consolation match, Paso Robles' Maria Petiy defeated Claire Bouquet of St. Joseph 8-4 to capture third place.
Peterson and Miller, who were seeded sixth in the doubles draw, defeated Arroyo Grande High's Amber Domako and Zoe Miller 6-2 and 6-1. Peterson finished second in the singles final last season. Domako had been battling a sore shoulder this week. Miller and Domako finished the regular season 35-5 overall.
Arroyo Grande High's Chelsea Pudwill and Alexis Flood topped Melina Rodgers and Joanne Phung, also from AG High, 8-1 to earn third place.
The CIF team competition opens next Wednesday.
