AG, Santa Ynez boys tennis win on the road, advance to CIF quarterfinals

Solid singles play and just enough wins from the doubles teams, the Arroyo Grande boys tennis team advanced in the CIF Quarterfinals with an 11-7 win at 10th seeded Great Oak.

The 7th seeded Eagles improved to 19-5 overall. They host 2nd seeded Cypress on Monday. Cypress beat Etiwanda 11-7 in the second round.

Top singles player Eli Whittle won 6-0, 6-2 and 6-1. Sean Hollister won 6-2, 6-3 and 6-0 at number two singles. Derek Lakowske took 2 out of 3 sets 3-6, 6-1 and 6-2. Arroyo Grande won 8 of the 9 sets in singles. The Eagles took 3 of the 9 doubles sets.

Cole Laughton and Ryley Anderson won two sets 6-4 and 6-2, while Jake Sarver and Jamieson O'Marr teamed up to take one set 6-2.

Last year, Arroyo Grande lost in the quarterfinals at the Division 2 level. The Eagles moved down to Division 3 this season.

Santa Ynez also won its second round match. The Pirates defeated Laguna Blanca in Santa Barbara 12-6 to advance to Monday's Division 4 Quarterfinals.
