AG, SLO volleyball eliminated from CIF in second round

There are no Pac 7 League girls volleyball teams left in the CIF Division 2AA playoffs after Thursday's second round.

League champion Arroyo Grande High lost in four sets at home to La Canada. The Eagles got off to a slow start and dropped the opening set 10-25 before rallying to take the second 25-19. However, the Spartans took the next two sets 17-25 and 22-25 to end the Eagles' season. Ernie Santa Cruz's girls finished 21-6 overall after a perfect 12-0 run through league play.

The Eagles had not played a match in more than a week after receiving a first round bye. Seniors Alyssa Koening and Milissa Morrow led the Eagles with 11 kills each. Danielle Mullery added 7 kills and 5 blocks in a solid performance. Jade Fuller racked up 21 digs in what was the final match for her and four other Eagle seniors.

Coming off its 3-0 first round win at home, San Luis Obispo lost a five set heartbreaker at Downey. The Tigers lost 25-22, 21-25, 25-19, 16-25 and 10-15 to finish the season 24-6 under head coach Manny Carter.

Freshman Holland Boege led the Tigers with 11 kills, while Ariel Becker added 10 kills. Senior setter Maggie Eppright had 37 assists and 16 digs in the loss.
