Aviator enthusiasts of all ages were able to get an inside look at some rare planes on Sunday.

Airport Day took place at the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport.

During the free event, vintage airplane owners had their prized models on display, so people could get a behind-the-scenes look.

Some owners even let kids sit in the pilot seat.

San Luis Obispo Airport Services General Manager Richard Howell says,"If we can light the spark of interest in somebody at a little event like this, when they're 5, 6, 7-years-old, and show them the importance of math and science and things like that to getting a good career in aviation in the future, that's a part of us giving back also, and we like to do that."

Howell says the event was important because the community could come out and see what the airport is all about.
