A late goal from Holt Alden delivered a 1-0 victory for the Morro Bay High boys soccer team over rival Templeton to open the second half of Los Padres League play on Thursday. The Pirates find themselves in unique position, they are in first place in the standing. Morro Bay is searching for its first league title since 1996.
The senior scored on a play he started around midfield in the 74th minute when he headed the ball to Jackson Chavez, who then sent it ahead to Alden. The senior got inside a Templeton defender and buried the ball in the back of the net as the Eagle player was grabbing onto his jersey.
For Alden it marked his ninth goal of the season and it was Chavez's sixth assist.
The Pirates improved to 5-1-1 in LPL action and claimed sole possession of first place. Morro Bay started the day tied for first with Cabrillo and Santa Ynez. Cabrillo tied Lompoc 0-0 on Thrusday and Santa Ynez played a non-league game. Each squad plays twelve league matches.
Templeton dropped to 0-7 in league.
