For his all-around effort in the CIF playoff opener, Arroyo Grande High's Garrett Owens has received the latest Friday Night Highlights Player of the Week award.
The senior was a major contributor on offense, defense and special teams in the Eagles' 41-6 win over Dos Pueblos. Owens got the 2nd seeded Eagles on the board first with a over the shoulder touchdown catch of 53 yards in the first quarter.
Owens finished with 7 catches for 117 yards and one touchdown catch. He also took one carry for 13 yards.
The Air Force recruit nailed 6 of his 7 kickoffs for touch backs and converted 5 extra point attempts.
On defense, Owens recorded 2 interceptions and racked up almost 60 yards on the returns. He also made 7 tackles.
Owens was quick to spread the gratitude after the first round win. "Just preparation on the field also great help from the offensive line. They're making the blocks to get me open and great throws by Brent. We just really came together as a team that's what is is really important," said Owens.
"What can you say about one of the greatest athletes that has come through this school. When you look at the things he does and how he performs them, he's an incredible athlete," said head coach Tom Goossen about Owens.
Owens receives a gift card from our FNH Player of the Week sponsor Subway.
This week's runners-up were Cabrillo's T.J. Babauta (12 carries, 160 yards and 2 touchdowns) and Templeton's Tobey Isbell (4 catches, 105 yards and 2 touchdowns).
