A longtime San Luis Obispo City Councilmember has announced he will not run for mayor in the upcoming general election.
Allen Settle has served more than 30 years on the city council, including four terms as mayor.
He is being termed out of his city council seat this year so he is only eligible to run for mayor.
However, he is instead throwing his support behind Councilwoman Jan Marx.
He says the two have a similar support base and they want to avoid a split vote.
"The strategy here is you need to unify your base and basically make the pitch of what's best for the city in the long run," said Settle.
As of now Marx will face off against former Councilman Paul Brown in November.
