Lompoc native Duane Solomon, Jr. picked up in 2013 where he left off in 2012. The Cabrillo High graduate set a 600 meter American record of 1:15.70 at the Five Nations Match in Scotland on Saturday. As a result, Solomon Jr. was named the USA Track and Field Athlete of the Week on Wednesday.

Solomon's time bettered the 26 year old record of 1:15.80 set by Chip Jenkins.

It was Solomon's first race since his 2012 season that included a fourth place finish at the London Olympic Games where he claimed the #2 spot on the all-time US list in the 800 meter event behind only his coach Johnny Gray.

Solomon has set his sights on the current 600 m world record of 1:15.12 that was set in 1999 by Nico Motchebon of Germany. He'll hope to challenge that mark at the Millrose Games on February 16.
