American Red Cross encourages residents to send cards to our troops

The American Red Cross is encouraging people on the Central Coast to send a card of support to troops overseas this holiday season.

"Taking just a few minutes to sit down with pen in hand and express our appreciation for the service of these brave men and women is a meaningful way to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday," says Loren Leidinger Avila, Executive Director. "Since 2006, we've distributed more than 4.7 million cards to members of the Armed Forces, and we hope members of San Luis Obispo County will help us continue this tradition."

All holiday greetings should be addressed and sent to:

Holiday Mail for Heroes
P.O. Box 5456
Capitol Heights, MD 20791-5456

Cards must be postmarked by Friday, December 7 for timely delivery.

The local chapter of the Red Cross is teaming up with Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo to host a card-making event on Tuesday, November 27. It will be held in the hospital's cafeteria from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.
