WRIGHTWOOD, Calif. (AP) - Angeles National Forest officials have closed Jackson Lake in the San Gabriel Mountains following a Dec. 25 incident in which visitors playing on its partially frozen surface fell through the ice.

The lake was closed on Jan. 1 and will remain off limits until March 31.

The National Forest Service says some of those who fell through the ice were trying to rescue others who fell in. Officials say everyone eventually made it out of the lake safely.

Jackson Lake is at an elevation of more than 6,000 feet on the north side of the mountain range, near the town of Wrightwood.
