An annual event turned into a fundraising festival for Kinsley Thomas-Wong in Pismo Beach this weekend.
Hundreds of people shared their passion for surfing, paddle boarding and kite boarding over the past three days. This year's event also featured a kite trainer, and around 60 people went through the clinic.
Their advice to everyone is once you try it, be prepared to get addicted.
The event started nine years ago as a birthday party for Thomas-Wong.
"Since then, nine years later, it's grown into the biggest event for our industry, for kite boarders to demo all of the gear in one place, because they just don't have this opportunity, especially for free," said Marina Chang, publisher for Kite Boarding Magazine.
The next step in Thomas-Wong's recovery includes going to San Diego for two rehab programs called "Next Step" and "Project Walk." All proceeds from this weekend's event will help cover the cost of Thomas-Wong's rehab.
